Houses

Residential electrical

Everything inside a house that runs on a wire. Whole-house restoration after a storm, code corrections, new circuits, fans, and the outdoor lighting that gets used every evening.

Chapter 01

Storm and flood restoration, a whole house at a time

After Harvey this shop spent a long stretch putting Beaumont houses back together. Flood restoration is not a repair call. Water gets into boxes, devices and cable, and the safe assumption is that anything it reached has to come out rather than be dried off and re-energised.

One customer described a crew of ours doing exactly that job: Mark, two Ryans and an apprentice named Justin, working through a whole-house restoration, patient about questions and about the work that got added along the way. Her words, not ours, and the reason this section leads the page.

The end of that job is new and restored lighting, tested circuits, and a house that will pass an inspection rather than one that merely has the power back on.

Code violation corrections and what an inspector is looking at

Code corrections usually surface at the worst moment, when a house is being sold or refinanced and somebody has written a list. The common items are predictable: missing or failed protective devices in kitchens, bathrooms and outdoors, ungrounded outlets replaced with three-prong faces that were never grounded, junction boxes buried behind drywall, and a panel with doubled-up breakers.

We work the list and correct what is actually wrong. If an item on somebody's report is not a violation, we will say so rather than bill you to change it.

Chapter 03

The small work, which is most of the calendar

Ceiling fans and the boxes rated to hold them. New circuits for a shop, a freezer or a window unit. Fuse placements and box changes. Home electrical inspections when you are buying and want to know what you are taking on.

Outside: outdoor kitchen wiring, landscape and security lighting, and pool circuits. These are small jobs that are easy to do badly, and outdoors on this coast is unforgiving about the difference.
